The Justus Von Liebig
coin and postal stamps released on the occasion of celebration of 200th
birth anniversary of Justus Von Liebig by the Federal Republic of Germany are
awarded to Prof. Dr. Vilas D Patil ,
Head Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Marathwada
Agricultural University, Parbhani for
his significant contribution in the field of Soil Fertility and Remote Sensing
applications in the soil sciences. The award was given in the International
Seminar organized by Humboldt – JNU New Delhi. This award
was given to Prof. Patil for his significant contribution made by him for last
25 years.
About Liebig
Justus Von Liebig born
in 1803 was considered as Father of Agricultural chemistry. He put forth a very
famous two laws 1. Law of Minimum and 2. Law of Restitution which has led to
the concept of Sustainable Agriculture Production. Liebig made the following statements based on
his research. Most of the carbon in plants comes from the carbon di oxide of
the atmosphere. Hydrogen and oxygen comes from water. Phosphorus is necessary
for seed formation.
