(Indian Knowledge System for Agriculture – Pathway towards
a Self-Reliant India @2047)” या विषयावर
ज्ञान केंद्र (Centre for Ancient Indian Knowledge)” सारख्या
together is a beginning; Keeping together is progress; Working together is

Indra Mani, was invited as the Chief Guest for the valedictory session. The
invitation was extended by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Arni University,
Prof. (Dr.) Ram Kinkar Pandey.
On this
occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani delivered an address on “Indian Knowledge System for Agriculture – Pathway
towards a Self-Reliant India @2047.”
In his address, he
reviewed the remarkable progress made by Indian agriculture since independence.
He highlighted that India’s journey from the food scarcity situation of the
1950s to self-sufficiency in food production and subsequently to becoming a
food-secure and food-surplus nation has been the result of the significant
contributions of agricultural research, technology, farmers, and agricultural
education.
Speaking about
the Indian knowledge tradition, he stated that India’s rich heritage of ancient
and sustainable knowledge and thought provides important guidance for the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).
He emphasized the need to effectively integrate the values of Indian knowledge
and traditional education systems into the modern education system. He also
proposed establishing centres such as the “Centre for Ancient Indian Knowledge” in higher
education institutions to carry forward India’s rich intellectual heritage to
the younger generation.
Referring to
world-class ancient Indian institutions of higher learning such as Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramashila, and Vallabhi,
he noted that multidisciplinary education and research were given considerable
importance in these institutions, which attracted students and scholars from
across the world. He further stated that the National Education Policy has
provided a clear direction for restoring global recognition to India’s higher
education institutions.
Highlighting the
relationship between the Indian Knowledge System and agriculture, he emphasized
the need to integrate traditional
Indian agricultural knowledge, efficient utilization of local resources,
sustainable farming practices, and modern science and technology.
